Working with the existing footprint to create a luxury family bathroom and enhance the connection to the beautifully landscaped garden with views to the canal.

The brief

This beautiful house located in the Polwarth area of Edinburgh was packed with lots of gorgeous features but did not maximise the connection with the lush garden which backs on to the canal.

There was a need for a larger family bathroom to suit this family of 4 and utility space was limited.

The solution

To fulfil the client’s brief, we decided to tweak the existing layout rather than extend as the house already had a generous footprint. We moved the washing machine / dryer upstairs into a spacious cupboard to be closer to the bedrooms and this provided space on the ground floor to create a sizeable family shower room.

An existing off shoot housing the shower room was retained but given a ‘glow up’ by cladding it in high quality zinc and forming a minimalist slot window with bold surround detail in copper coloured zinc.

Large bi-fold doors with high level clerestory windows replaced a much smaller opening to enhance the light into the kitchen / dining room and enable the space to be fully opened up on warmer days and maximise the view to the beautiful garden and the canal beyond.
